Neverwinter Nights Linux client

So I'm trying yet again (for the nth) time to try to make Linux my primary operating system. Usually I end up back on Windows sooner or later in part just to not deal with switching back and forth for games and such, but for the most part I don't game much anymore since so many of the latest are so very uninteresting to me (and many among the few I do like support Linux.) Anyway, I wanted to pick up an old game, namely Neverwinter Nights, which I always loved but which has been a royal hassle lately to play since so many modern videocard drivers struggle so badly with its OpenGL implementation. It was my hope that maybe, just maybe, it might run well in Linux or at least be playable. Unfortunately this one is being quite stubborn about actually getting working.

So at first I thought I'd just copy the files from my GoG version over and extract the Linux client files on top as per what some forum threads I found elsewhere covered. This seemed the easiest thing to do. I searched around on exactly what to do and found some forum threads covering it somewhat. As per the instructions, I first extracted the 1.29 client, ran ./fixinstall, then extracted the 1.69 XP2 files and once again ran ./fixinstall. I tried running the game and got an error about libmss.so.6 missing even though it should have been there and searched around a bit more. One post suggested editing a line in the ./nwn script file to change the library directory being exported, so I tried that. Then it just sort of froze up with no messages at all. I tried waiting a while, but it never loaded. (I'd add here that atm I'm running this from a SSD and this is a quite old game that never used excessive amounts of loading, so load times should be through the roof.) After searching for another hour or so I did find one post saying it needed several packages (They said libstc++5, "libgl" and "sdl_mixer." libstdc++5 was no trouble, but the other two have been very tricky indeed to figure out. I don't remember what I finally ended up with, but I think I got them.) So I tried my best to get those installed. Well, I'm not 100% sure if I got the right stuff installed because now it just says "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)".

Anyway, just to be sure I decided to start over completely clean. I tracked down my old original CDs and, upon finding that there is no Linux installer for the original game pre-expansion pack, I searched around and found people suggesting the "Loki installer" (namely
